To balance a rather pathetic very negative recent review about Malling Repair I'd like to relate an incident where the electric tailgate lock of my car got jammed and wouldn't open. I took it to the main dealer where I got the car from, thinking it would be an issue they were familiar with, who said it would be at least 300 plus parts and would involve crowbars and paint damage.I took it to Malling (I've used thembefore for servicing and MOT's of older cars) who said leave it with us. I went into town and anticipated a long wait. 15 minutes later Malling called me and said they'd fixed it. No damage, no crowbars, no parts. The cost? They said give us a drink. My personal experience is that the work is good and they're always fair on pricing.
I advise anyone considering using this garage to reconsider immediately, there are MANY better options inside the Maidstone area. The owner Nigel is rude and condescending, opting for technical terms and the aid of Ross Wiki to back up his points in the hope to pull wool over your eyes.To give background my car was recovered and taken to Malling Repair Service after a fault with the power steering, where it was going be diagnosed and ultimately fixed. The only issue is, I think pound signs were seen as I was obviously desperate to get my car back and resume normal life (as car is used daily for commute etc). This is where the story begins... Initially a fault was found and fixed, however from there this wasn't enough for the garage as they proceeded to call me and let me know that there was further repairs required, this was after I was told the car was fine and ready for collection from one of Nigel's colleagues, strange no? Even from here, a further "software upgrade" was required at an additional cost of time and money, which at this point was too late for me to refuse.I raised my issues with Nigel, stating that if these additional parts of work were required why was I not made aware of them before it was started? I assume as a professional garage that things like this should be immediately obvious, and the warnings passed onto the customer. Nonetheless Nigel was rude over the phone and never gave a straight answer that could "incriminate" him if this was taken further. After seeking advice from someone working as a VW engineer for 20+ years i was made aware that it was a classic scam with steering faults, opting to replace everything in and around it rather than just the problem itself (which was a simple wiring loom issue), such negligence ended up costing me over 1000 rather than the small amount I was advised it should have cost. I truly advise anyone considering this garage to go elsewhere, never have I felt more of a victim than a customer when paying money for a service.Edit: From the response given by the owner here, I'll let other people judge the level of customer service this company provides.
Good service , good quality of work that the Malling Service is doing . The staff was happy to give answers at all my questions and happy to explaine me everything that i have to know(especialy Nigel). Ive used Malling Repair for a few years now and never been disappointed, always polite, honest, excellent work and very reasonable pricing. I felt I needed to share todays experience,my car went in for some work, nothing major and when I returned to settle the bill it was quite a bit more than I was quoted. I asked to speak to the manager Nigel who promptly looked into it and said he had misquoted the price to me,without a word from me he agreed to only charge that which was quoted by himself, when I said I didnt want him to lose out he saidits not about losing money, its about keeping a customer .Well you dont come across such honest, decent people so much these days but Nigel, you are one of those people,Thankyou very much and to all who work there, you do a fantastic job.
I had an urgent problem with the car, the splash guard was damaged and scraping on the road and despite being busy, they got the car up on a lift and fixed the problem for a very low cost. Very nice and friendly staff, highly recommended. Thanks guys for getting me back on the road not sounding like I am dragging a shed under the car!
